Change Snow Blower Oil and Prepare for Storage

Hi All,

Check out my new video on How to Change Snow Blower Oil and Prepare for Storage.

For this process, you will be spending approximately 5-15 minutes of your time and this will save you a hassle and money for years to come with starting your snowblower.

Tools required

- 11 mm socket & Ratchet

- Oil (Recommended by your Snow Blower, usually 5w-30) - Go for Synthetic.

- Rag

- Gloves

- Pan

- Gasoline Siphon Tool.

To Change Oil -
  • Turn on your snowblower for 1 minute to warm the oil and shut it down.
  • Locate the drain plug and using an 11 mm socket, unscrew the bolt and drain all the oil.
  • Once done screw the drain plug (bolt) back. Do not overtighten.
  • Refill the oil from oil check area (usually marked yellow in the U.S.)
  • Use the dipstick to check if the oil has reached H, do not overfill.
  • Make sure the Snow Blower is set to off or key is out.
  • Pull the cord a few times to lubricate the engine.
Prepare for Storage
  • For Advance Users - Drain the excess gas by removing the fuel line.
  • For Novice - Use the Siphon Tool to remove excess gas from the gas tank. Leave a little bit so you can turn on the Snow Blower for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add Fuel Stabilizer according to the recommended ratio. I normally add 2 teaspoons.
  • Close the Gas Cap and Run the Snow Blower until it runs out of the Gas.
Now you are set to store.
